Optimal Timing?

The best time to do cardio is immediately after your weights training.

During your weight training workout you are using glucose, and stored glycogen, as fuel for energy. Glucose and glycogen are sugars, and sugars are carbs. You want to use carbs as fuel for your training.

After your weights session, your glucose and glycogen levels low, thus allowing your body to use fat as fuel during your cardio.

Japanese researchers found that cardio after resistance training lead to significantly more fat burnt than performing cardio first.

It was also noted that fat-burning was maximized during the first 15 minutes of cardio following the weight workout.

Japanese research has found two interesting results. The first is that fat loss is in fact higher when cardio is performed after weight training as opposed to before.

The second is that growth hormone levels are higher when weights are performed first. Growth hormone promotes muscle growth and also fat loss, resulting in cardio being best performed AFTER weight training.
